COLLEGE CHOICE released its ranking of the top oceanside colleges, and both Salve Regina University and the University of Rhode Island made the list.

Salve Regina University and the University of Rhode Island are among the top 50 oceanside colleges in the nation, according to College Choice.
Salve Regina was No. 29 on the list.
College Choice, a website that helps students and their families choose colleges, had this to say about Salve in Newport:
“A Catholic, private university located in Newport, Rhode Island, Salve Regina University offers sea-loving students the best surfing spot in New England, due to the temperate climate. It is also known as the sailing capital of the world, combining sailing clubs with a first-class education.”
URI in South Kingstown was No. 42 on the list. College Choice described it as “a land- and sea-grant public institution” and noted its nationally ranked oceanography program.
“With the Atlantic Ocean a mile away, students can take part in beachcombing, clam bakes, fishing and sailing as part of recreational activities,” College Choice said.
Yale University in New Haven, Conn., topped the list. College Choice described it as “a school for nature lovers,” as it is near the New Haven Harbor overlooking Long Island Sound, and noted that it is home to a world-class rowing team.
College Choice said it ranked the schools on return on investment, “because studying on the beach is no reason not to also get a good education for your money.”
“For students who are avid water-sports fans, or who want to go into marine biology, aquaculture or oceanography, there is one requirement – the school must be near water. A school near the ocean will undoubtedly have resources, programs and even clubs that combine a love of the water with learning, and so this is where the journey for dedicated students begins,” College Choice said.
