Santander awards $35K in grants to four nonprofits

Santander Bank has awarded grants totaling $35,000 to four different Rhode Island nonprofits as part of $2.3 million distributed to 108 leading community organizations nationwide.
The awards include a $10,000 grant to Crossroads Rhode Island in Providence; a $5,000 grant to Project GOAL (Greater Opportunity for Athletes to Learn) Inc. in Providence; a $5,000 grant to the Boys & Girls Club of Pawtucket; and $15,000 to the Pawtucket Central Falls Development Corporation.
This new commitment brings Santander’s 2015 year-end total to more than $4.5 million in charitable grants awarded to 286 organizations, the bank said in a press release.
“Santander’s grant program is part of a fundamental commitment to our communities to help build strong neighborhoods and support people with effective community-based programs,” said Gwen Robinson, managing director for corporate social responsibility for Santander Bank. “These important organizations provide valuable training and support for participants – all with the goal of building brighter futures and improving long-term economic outcomes.”
The grants are part of the bank’s commitment to the communities where its customers and team members work and live. The bank’s giving focuses on such issues as financial education, neighborhood revitalization, community services and affordable housing initiatives.
The largest grant for the Pawtucket Central Falls Development Corporation will be used to help support the stipend and salary of two team members: an AmeriCorps volunteer who will serve as the Health Equity Zone program assistant, and a case manager for Project RENEW, which was created in 2006 to assist women who had been or were currently engaged in commercial sex work, and to help them address issues such as mental health problems, domestic violence and sexual abuse in childhood.
The Crossroads Rhode Island grant will be used to provide homeless and at-risk Rhode Islanders secure and stable homes. The Project Goal grant will assist with the costs of teachers and coaches, busing, snacks, school and soccer supplies, and administration and fundraising to help secure programming for upcoming years.
The Boys & Girls Club of Pawtucket grant will be used for the organization to continue offering its education and career preparation programs.
The Santander Bank Charitable Contributions Program serves as Santander Bank’s philanthropic arm, investing in programs that make a difference for underserved individuals and communities in the Northeast. For more information, visit www.santanderbank.com.
