PROVIDENCE – The east passage of Narragansett Bay will be closed to boat traffic as a result of the Save The Bay Swim on Aug. 13.

The portion of the bay that will be closed extends from Gould Island and Jamestown to Pell Newport Bridge.

As a result of this closure, traffic will be redirected to pass on the west side of Jamestown. However, the U.S. Coast Guard may allow for certain vessels to pass through the center span of the Pell Newport Bridge based on specific case evaluations.

The Coast Guard can be contacted on VHF Channel 16. Boaters with questions should contact Save the Bay Captain Eric Pfirrmann at 272-3540, ext. 143 prior to Aug. 13.
