The Savory Grape recently donated 35 coats to the Rhode Island Coalition Against Domestic Violence after attendees of the wine shop’s holiday open house were encouraged to donate their gently used winter wear.
“It’s the little things that make a big impact for victims seeking shelter from abuse – hot meals, safe beds to sleep in and warm coats for their families all make a difference in the lives of survivors,” Deborah DeBare, executive director of the coalition, said in a statement.
The coalition offers shelter, case management, counseling, child care and financial services, among other programs through its six member agencies around the state.
“Our hearts go out to those affected by domestic violence, knowing that the holiday season must be a particularly difficult time for them and their young ones,” said Jessica Granatiero, proprietor of The Savory Grape. “We are overwhelmed with gratitude to our customers and other guests who embraced the holiday spirit of giving, allowing us to make this gracious donation.” •
