Schilling ‘surprised’ by Amalur turnout

BOSTON – Curt Schilling, former Red Sox pitcher and founder of 38 Studios LLC, was “surprised” by the roughly 250-person line for the release of his company’s first video game, The Boston Globe reported.

Schilling was signing copies of “Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning,” released Tuesday at midnight, at GameStop in Bellingham, Mass., along with R.A. Salvatore, who created the game’s storyline.

“For five years, I haven’t been able to say a word about this,” said Salvatore to the newspaper. “And tomorrow the game gets to talk for us … I think this game is outstanding. It’s the world I envisioned back in 2006.”

“I honestly thought it was going to be all people from my company,” Schilling added. “I don’t recognize anybody in line. They’re all gamers.”

One of the people on line, Andrew Stone of Milford, said that he was convinced to buy the game after downloading the free demo version.

“It’s a fun environment, to see the people who are kind of like you,” said Stone about the crowd.
