The E. Richard Durfee Scholarship Fund raised more than $20,000 during its first annual fundraiser. Proceeds from the event will provide scholarships to Narragansett High School students pursuing higher education in math or science fields.
The fundraiser also featured a silent auction, where bids were placed to purchase new computers for the high school’s special-education department (among other auction items). The scholarship fund matched the bids and through the help of Community Nerd, DMAC Technology Group Inc. and Free Geek Providence, was able to purchase several computers for the department.
“Narragansett High School appreciates the generous donation by The Richard Durfee Scholarship Fund,” said Dan Warner, principal of Narragansett High School. “It is wonderful community partnerships such as this that allow our students to grow and achieve.”
The fundraiser was held in November at The Towers in Narragansett and it featured food and wine tastings from local restaurants and vendors, including Crazy Burger, Bonnet Liquors, George’s of Galilee, Ninigret Oyster Farm, Sons of Liberty and more. •
