The Schwartz Center and BayCoast Bank recently announced that doctors from around the South Coast will join them in “Pushing Beyond Limits” during the 36th annual New Bedford Half Marathon, to be held March 17.
Pushing Beyond Limits is an effort in which teams of runners push a child who attends the Schwartz Center along the marathon route.
Paul Mello, vice president and business-development officer at BayCoast Bank said he enjoys participating in this event.
“I’m involved in so many worthwhile community events,” he said, “but this one really touches my heart. The kids get to be part of something special.”
Dr. Robert Caldas said he also looks forward to pitching in with the cause.
“I love helping out at the marathon,” he said. “I don’t often get a chance to donate my time, so this is the perfect opportunity for me. Aside from that, I love seeing the kids and the look on their faces and the support they receive from so many dedicated people.”
A portion of the proceeds from the marathon will support the center. •
