WASHINGTON – U.S. Sens. Jack Reed and Sheldon Whitehouse last month announced more than $2.2 million in federal funding for two Rhode Island conservation programs: the state’s Coastal Management Program and the Rhode Island Sea Grant.

According to a news release, the Coastal Resources Management Council will receive $1.268 million to help administer Rhode Island’s Coastal Management Program, which works to balance the economic, environmental and recreational demands on Rhode Island’s coastal areas. The Sea Grant will receive $975,000 through the Sea Grant College Program to continue its role as a leader in coastal and ocean planning, climate change adaption, fisheries and other ocean research. The grants are administered by the U.S. Department of Commerce’s National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. •
