Serve Rhode Island and Save The Bay are looking to recruit nearly 1,000 volunteers to help replant 225,000 square feet of dune grass at Misquamicut State Beach in Westerly.

Coastal dunes were among the property severely damaged nearly a year ago when Storm Sandy hit. The sand has been replaced and the dunes need to be replanted between now and March of 2014, Serve Rhode Island says.

Volunteers are needed over a nine-weekend period starting Oct. 25. Volunteers can sign up for as many weekend shifts as they would like. For more information, contact Amanda Ball at aball@ServeRhodeIsland.org or call 401.331.2298, ext. 104.
