CUMBERLAND – Tiffany & Co. has been making the National Football League’s Super Bowl trophy – now known as the Lombardi Trophy – from the beginning, back in 1967, when the Green Bay Packers defeated the Kansas City Chiefs.

A handful of the trophies (as in five), made from seven pounds of silver at Tiffany’s Cumberland manufacturing facility, made the trip to Providence on Feb. 7 when New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft and number of the team’s players attended a rally at the Dunkin’ Donuts Center to celebrate the most recent of the team’s five Super Bowl triumphs.

A recent Forbes.com feature revealed that the Lombardi Trophy’s silver has an approximate value of $1,625, according to Tiffanyt, although the manufacturer will not place a value on the piece.

The story notes that the trophy is 22 inches high and, according to company lore, was designed on a napkin during a 1966 meeting between a company designer and NFL Commissioner Pete Rozelle.

The only thing missing from this year’s edition of the Lombardi Trophy is the winning team’s name, which will read “New England Patriots, Super Bowl LI Champions,” once the upcoming engraving work at the Cumberland facility is complete.
