PROVIDENCE – The Providence College Corporation has offered a third five-year term to Providence College President Rev. Brian J. Shanley, beginning July 1, 2015.
Shanley’s current term, his second, is set to expire on June 30, 2015.
Shanley began his tenure as president at Providence College on July 1, 2005, and since then has overseen the development of a new core curriculum, the expansion of the school’s global outreach and mission programs, the creation of the Providence College School of Business, and the establishment of the Angel Fund to provide financial aid for critical-need students.
In addition, Shanley was instrumental in the design and formation of the new Big East Conference and oversaw the implementation of a five-year strategic plan through 2015 and a capital development plan that provided for, among other projects, the construction of the Ruane Center for the Humanities and a $4.2 million renovation of the college’s biology, chemistry, biochemistry and engineering labs.
“The hallmark of his leadership has been stability, prominence and progress despite an unsettled and challenging climate for private higher education in America,” said the Very Rev. Brian M. Mulcahy, chairman of the Providence College Corporation. “The college is performing well in virtually every area as we move toward the celebration of its centennial in 2017. We are pleased that he will continue to be at the helm.”
