Shape Up RI holding annual spring challenge

PROVIDENCE – Pete Thomas, a winner in the “The Biggest Loser” program, will help celebrate the sixth annual “Shape Up RI Challenge on May 23 at noon at Waterplace Park. The event, sponsored by Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Rhode Island, is free and open to the public.
Thomas, who lost 185 pounds in nine months, will be the keynote speaker. He will be joined by Peter Andruszkiewicz, Blue Cross’ president and CEO, and Dr. Rajiv Kumar, Shape Up RI founder. Special guests will include Rhode Island first lady Stephanie Chafee.
A fit workforce brings numerous benefits to the business community – including greater productivity, reduced absenteeism, and higher morale – and helps reduce the cost of health care overall, according to Blue Cross and Shape Up RI.
The event will feature free, healthy, boxed lunches, which will be served while supplies last. An exercise mob, led by Gold’s Gym, will be offered. &#8226
