PROVIDENCE – ShapeUp Rhode Island is launching its 10th annual statewide fitness competition – ShapeUp Rhode Island.

The 10-week virtual journey around the Ocean State begins on March 23 and ends May 31.

Teams of employees and community members work together to log as many steps as they can, virtually moving from one Rhode Island city to the next, to increase their physical fitness and engage in constructive competition with other teams.

“It’s amazing to think that over the past nine years more than 250 companies and 80,000 individuals have participated in ShapeUp RI’s evidence-based program, walking millions of miles, losing tens of thousands of pounds, and proving that teamwork is a powerful prescription for taking control of one’s health,” said Rajiv Kumar, co-founder and CEO of ShapeUp.

The cities to be “visited” are: Cumberland, Burrillville, Coventry, Westerly, South Kingstown, East Greenwich, Newport, Bristol, Barrington, Pawtucket, and Providence.
