While trying to devise a more effective way to communicate with their son, Austin, Jarrid and Sylvia Hall came up with the business idea for Dinner-x-Change LLC.
The mobile- and computer-based software allows children to take photos and write “GABs,” which are one-to-four-word reminders that prompt memories from events, lessons or other notable activities during each child’s day.
The platform, according to the Halls, has made conversing easier and more robust for the family.
“That’s our whole mission right now, to spark the conversation movement, because we have seen the benefit for our own family,” said Sylvia Hall.
The Halls have found Austin better remembering his days, which quickly caught on with their daughter, Gracie.
Jarrid Hall says the platform is now being used in a couple schools, where teachers are integrating GABs as part of each lesson. He hopes to expand into other schools and bring the product to market sometime next year.
“We call it Dinner-x-Change, but it can be used in the car, in the reading room, really anywhere,” Hall said. •
