BOSTON – Shawmut Design and Construction has formed a new sports-venue division specializing in the management of construction projects at stadiums, arenas and athletic complexes.
The Boston-based company with offices in Providence started the sports division after working on a series of recent sports venue construction projects including the MetLife Stadium and Yankee Stadium in New York, Oriole Park at Camden Yards in Baltimore, and in Boston: Fenway Park, Alumni Stadium, and TD Garden.
“2011 was an important year for Shawmut Design and Construction. We grew significantly despite a flat market, and I am pleased to include the launch of our Sports Venues division as the latest strategic initiative for our company,” said Shawmut CEO Tom Goemaat. “Shawmut’s expertise in multiple sectors across the construction industry means we are uniquely positioned to successfully navigate the complex challenges that often encompass projects related to these world-class facilities.”
The new sports-venue division will be based in Boston, headed by Director Randy Shelly and run from Shawmut’s Boston office.
The sports-venue division’s current projects include a series of improvements at TD Garden and improvements to Oriole Park at Camden Yards’ upper level concessions during the Major League Baseball offseason.
