PROVIDENCE – Merrill W. Sherman, principal at Sherman Consulting LLC and former president and CEO of Bank Rhode Island, has been named as the newest member of the Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Rhode Island board of directors.

“The appointment of Merrill Sherman to our board speaks to the board’s commitment to inviting not just astute business leaders, but members who are deeply involved and committed to the Rhode Island community,” Peter Andruszkiewicz, president and CEO of Blue Cross, said in a statement. “We are very grateful for Merrill’s willingness to join our board.”

Sherman, who has more than 25 years of “top level corporate experience,” will sit on both the insurer’s finance committee and the health, market and strategic initiatives committee.

“She brings a track record of visionary leadership, strong financial performance and the ability to build exceptional management teams,” said a BCBSRI release.
