this week’s poll

Should effects on jobs be calculated for all legislation?

Yes, we ask about cost, why not jobs 65% | 31 votes
No, job estimates are unreliable 33% | 16 votes
I don't know 2% | 1 vote

Current federal law requires that pending legislation be “scored” in order to estimate its costs. U.S. Rep. David N. Cicilline has introduced legislation along with Sen. Joe Manchin of West Virginia to add an evaluation of legislation in terms of its effect on jobs.

Specifically, their bicameral proposal would require the Congressional Budget Office to determine the number of jobs that would be either created, protected or destroyed by specific pieces of legislation.

Is this a good idea?

david n. cicilline, congressional budget office, job-creating legislation, job-destroying legislation, job-saving legislation
