Should the NECAP tests be one of the benchmarks used to determine high school graduation?

When the R.I. Department of Education released a statement saying that 40 percent of this year’s junior class was in danger of not graduating from high school because of sub-standard scores on the New England Common Assessment Program tests, many parents and student advocates reacted strongly, with many calling for the end of placing the test in such a determining role.

Elementary & Secondary Education Commissioner Deborah A. Gist countered by saying that the affected children would have a clear path to bring themselves into compliance with the statewide requirements over the next year.

Where do you stand on the issue?
