Should the state pay back the 38 Studios bonds?

Posted 5/18/14

Following the release of a report that suggested not repaying the moral obligation bonds issued on behalf of Curt Schilling’s failed video game company, 38 Studios LLC, would result in serious harm to Rhode Island’s credit rating, the issue kicked into political overdrive.

Gov. Lincoln D. Chafee said that the gubernatorial candidates who advocated not repaying the bonds were unfit to be governor.

Republican candidate for governor Ken Block said that 38 Studios went bankrupt under Chafee’s watch, and that the governor was “asleep at the wheel” as the video game company spiraled out of control.

What do you think the state should do about repaying the bonds?
