Showhomes to enter R.I. market

PROVIDENCE – Showhomes, a franchise that sells home staging services to home sellers and real estate agents, recently announced it plans to enter the Rhode Island market.
The company, based in Chicago, has several service options for its customers, but one of the more unusual is its “home manager” service.
This matches high-end, vacant homes with people who have tasteful and elegant furniture, accessories and artwork, and who need temporary housing. These people, who are selected after screening by the company, understand that their occupancy could end within months, according to Showhomes COO Matt Kelton.
“This is not a typical rental,” he said.
The idea is that a home that is lived in and looks occupied will sell more quickly. The managers also make sure the homes are taken care of in the absence of owners, and prepare them for open houses and showings, Kelton said.
Rhode Island is a desirable market for the company, Kelton said in an interview, because it has several affluent communities and a strengthening real estate market.
Showhomes enters markets and concentrates on the homes for sale in the top 20 percent of the market, he said.
