Site provides guide to potholes

PROVIDENCE – “Going over your handle bars sucks! This is a public map to make cyclists aware of the pot holes that seem to plague our city,” the Providence Pothole Project declares.
The Google map, pinpointing the location and details of about 80 of the city’s pot holes, was created on Feb. 6 and has received 13,878 cumulative views as of Feb. 14.
“If nothing else, we figured we could get this database together and, through word of mouth, the City would see it. Instead of [the City] having to go out and find the pot holes themselves, they could go out with a map and ‘x’ them off,” said Randy Shapiro, owner of a fabrication/design shop in East Providence.
“It’ll be more powerful, the more people post on it,” he added.
The communal project was also mentioned in Greater City: Providence.
Pothole service request forms are available on the city of Providence’s website here.
