Sixth annual Big Toast Fundraiser to benefit BBBSOS

CRANSTON – The sixth annual Big Toast fundraiser to benefit Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Ocean State will take place Oct. 6 at Rhodes on the Pawtuxet. David Dadekian, owner and founder of Eat Drink Rhode Island, will return as honorary chairperson.

According to Dadekian, who said he is pleased to continue his involvement with the fundraiser, “[BBBSOS’s] mission is not only admirable, but the services they provide to more than 500 local children every year are critical to the future of Rhode Island. I’m so happy to be able to offer my experience in helping to make this event a continued success.”

The Big Toast Fundraiser will feature offerings from more than 60 restaurants, bars, breweries, wineries and distilleries for guests’ delight. Featured vendors include Sons of Liberty, Two Ten Oyster Bar, Mills Tavern, The Real McCoy and the Coast Guard House.

The 2015 event earned more $20,000 for the organization, which allowed the nonprofit to continue serving local youth, said BBBSOS Executive Director Katje Afonseca.

“Each mentoring relationship we have within our organization requires an extensive background screening for participating adults, along with ongoing professional support from skilled BBBSOS case workers who provide training and free activities for our mentoring pairs. These necessities cost money, and it is wonderful for us to have a fundraiser like The Big Toast to support these expenses,” she said.

Tickets for the event can be purchased online at www.TheBigToast.org.
