Smith Hill Community Development Corporation, half full team up to improve neighborhood

PROVIDENCE – The Smith Hill Community Development Corporation and half full LLC announced this week that they will share office space at 400 Smith St.

SHCDC, established in 1992, is a community-focused nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the quality of life for residents of the Smith Hill neighborhood. Executive Director Jean Lamb achieves this mission by providing quality, affordable housing options.

Lamb said the decision to move the company’s offices was made in order to increase SHCDC’s presence in the neighborhood. “The SHCDC is expanding its footprint. We have a well-known presence at 47 Goddard St. and 231 Douglas Ave.; Smith Street was the next logical choice,” she said.

Rebecca Twitchell, CEO and founder of half full, which specializes in strategic planning, personal and leadership development, as well as retreat facilitation; is excited to return to the Smith Hill neighborhood.

“I grew up in Smith Hill at a time where business in this area was thriving, the community was full of energy and there was never a loss for something fun to do within just a few blocks. … We are excited to help this stretch of Smith Street become the bustling area it once was and build community with everyone from youth to senior citizens, businesses, nonprofits, churches, schools … everyone,” she said.

The office space, which will be known as “The 400,” will host an open house during Providence’s Gallery Night, which will be held on April 21 this year. Lamb and Twitchell will open their doors and showcase paintings, photographs and prints by local artists that were donated by Art Collection-RI.

“We are looking forward to sharing the space, our collective mission and beautiful art from the local community with those on the tour and our friends and family who will attend our Open House,” said Lamb.

Gallery Night /“The 400” open house is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.-7:30.p.m. on April 21.
