Fresh ideas for bringing the beauty and serenity of aquariums into peoples’ lives are always flowing at Something Fishy.
The business, founded in 1993 by CEO Kurt Harrington as an outgrowth of his youthful aquarium hobby, has shifted focus in the last few years. In 2013, Harrington sold the arm of the company that created outdoor water features and turned to three areas of specialization: homes, health care environments and offices.
In homes, Harrington sees the aquarium as a hub for family members to enjoy quiet time together. About three years ago, Something Fishy began planning a partnership with Jordan’s Furniture to create items of furniture that display underwater habitats. He noted that Warren Buffett, chief of Berkshire Hathaway, which owns Jordan’s Furniture, attended the launch in 2015 of the first aquarium/furniture pieces at a Jordan’s store in Connecticut.
In May 2016, the company introduced a line of small, tabletop accessories under the name Plakat, the Thai word for beta fish. n
