SOUTH KINGSTOWN – South County Hospital was ranked the No. 1 hospital in Rhode Island for patient satisfaction by the Press Ganey Survey, the hospital announced Tuesday.
South County Hospital has earned the top distinction for the last 36 consecutive months.
“Being named the No. 1 hospital in patient satisfaction for three consecutive years is the culmination of a commitment to excellence at South County Hospital,” Vice President of Patient Care Services Barbara Seagrave said in a statement.
According to a release, every hospital in Rhode Island – and 10,000 health care organizations across the country – participate in the survey.
Press Ganey measures patient satisfaction through a detailed questionnaire, which is mailed to everyone who has used the hospital. The release said enough surveys are returned for data to be statistically significant.
Survey questions cover multiple aspects of patient care, including how patients’ family and visitors were treated, room comfort and cleanliness, attentiveness of nurses and caregivers, pain management, food, tests and treatments, clarity of instructions, and discharge planning information. Survey results are compiled monthly and reported quarterly.
“Perhaps the most significant question in the survey asks patients whether they would recommend the hospital to a family member or friend, and [South County Hospital] consistently comes out on top,” said the release.
The South Kingstown-based hospital has ranked in the 99th percentile for the last three years and the hospital’s emergency department has ranked in the 99th percentile for the last two consecutive quarters.
