Southcoast Health, Brown’s Alpert Medical School collaborate

NEW BEDFORD – Southcoast Health and Brown University’s Warren Alpert Medical School have announced a collaboration in which Brown medical students have begun participating in clinical rotations at Southcoast Health.

“Southcoast Health is proud to work with one of our country’s most prestigious academic institutions,” Keith A. Hovan, president & CEO of Southcoast Health, said in a statement. “Our Southcoast physicians are an invaluable asset to this region, and we are excited to share their knowledge and expertise with the future minds of health care.”

Third-year Brown medical students began receiving education at Southcoast sites by Southcoast-employed physicians during their core clerkship in pediatrics in May. They also will train in family medicine, and obstetrics and gynecology in the near future.

“This collaboration is a wonderful opportunity to expand the clinical experiences for our medical students and engage them in the communities served by Southcoast Health,” Dr. Allan Tunkel, associate dean for medical education at Alpert Medical School, said in a statement.
