Southcoast Health, CNE take next step in union

NEW BEDFORD – Southcoast Health and Care New England have moved a step closer to becoming partners.

The Massachusetts and Rhode Island health care systems each announced Aug. 29 that they have submitted the first of several regulatory filings necessary to move forward with their proposed affiliation. This first filing, called a Notice of Material Change, was submitted to the Massachusetts Health Policy Commission, SouthCoast Today reported.

Southcoast Health includes St. Luke’s Hospital in New Bedford, Charlton Hospital in Fall River and Tobey Hospital in Wareham.

The Southcoast and Care New England groups must make two additional Massachusetts filings to the Department of Public Health in order to move forward: one for health facility licensure and the other for a determination of need.

In addition, three filings will be required in Rhode Island: an application with the Department of Health for a Change in Effective Control and two filings under the Hospital Conversions Act – one with the attorney general and one with the Department of Health. •
