Southcoast names Martelly Associate Chief Medical Officer

FALL RIVER – Southcoast Health System named Dr. Peter D. Martelly associate chief medical officer for the Southcoast Hospitals Group, hospital officials announced on May 7.
The Southcoast hospital network includes Charlton Memorial Hospital in Fall River, St. Luke’s Hospital in New Bedford and Tobey Hospital in Wareham.
Martelly currently serves as the Associate Director of Medical Education for Southcoast Hospitals Group and will continue to do so in his new position.
“Dr. Martelly has been a practicing physician in the Fall River community for nearly 26 years,” said Dr. Robert J. Caldas, senior vice president and Chief Medical Officer of Southcoast Hospitals Group. “He brings to this new role many experiences from the diverse leadership positions which he has held within the system.
In his new role, Martelly will assist in overseeing Southcoast’s quality improvement and patient safety programs. He will also assist in the day-to-day operations of the medical staff and continuing medical education.
Martelly, an obstetrics and gynecology physician, received his MD from Tufts University School of Medicine in Boston. He completed his residency and internship at Women’s & Infant’s Hospital in Providence. He resides in Swansea.
