A2B Tracking was going through a significant growth phase about five years ago. But without stated company values at that time, creating a cohesive team, especially as we hired new employees, was difficult.
To create the values, I invited one or two employees from every division of A2B Tracking to develop a list of values that we stood for as a company, left-brainers and right-brainers working together.
I was blown away by the participation. We started with about 20 company values, then whittled them down to five, but they were far too wordy. I needed these values to be memorable to everyone in the company without index cards.
So we decided that each value had to be two words or less. I needed everyone to recite them from memory in the hallway, on the phones, or in front of customers.
Today at A2B Tracking the values adorn the hallways, live in our proposals and on our website. We recognize team members quarterly for their achievement of these standards by lasing small plaques (laser marking systems are part of our business after all). It's just a token, but a collection of these moments of recognition create pride within the company.
