Starkweather acquires Conn. insurance agency

EAST PROVIDENCE – Starkweather & Shepley Insurance Brokerage Inc. last week announced that it had acquired First Connecticut Insurance Inc. of Bristol, Conn. The agency will relocate into Starkweather’s Bristol, Conn., office in the near future.

Joseph Brandi founded First Connecticut in 2001 and served as president. He’ll retain the title as head of what will be a new division of Starkweather.

First Connecticut provides personal and commercial insurance.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

“Our common client-centric approach, expanded capabilities and services should prove of additional and ongoing client value,” said Larry Keefe, Starkweather executive vice president.

In June, Starkweather announced the acquisition of East Berlin, Conn.,-based McDonough & Keegan Insurance Agency.

Starkweather employs approximately 200 in Rhode Island, Connecticut, Massachusetts and Fort Myers, Fla. •
