DARTMOUTH – Stat Southcoast EMS, a provider of medical transportation in Dartmouth, has launched a training school to certify individuals as emergency medical technicians, the company announced Wednesday.

The Stat Emergency Medical Training School will be taught by licensed and practicing EMTs and paramedics from the Stat ambulance team.

School organizers say that puts them in a different category than other training programs that often use instructors who have not practiced in years.

“Particularly in our region of the state where unemployment is high yet there is a demand for these positions, this is a great step for someone to take,” said Carol Mansfield, owner and CEO of Stat Ambulance Company and Stat Southcoast EMS.

“We believe this will help address several key problems in the region – the need for EMTs and ultimately help people who are unemployed or underemployed,” she said.

The state-certified training school will run on evenings and weekends and include instruction in all areas required to become an EMT including anatomy, physiology, First Aid and CPR.

The school also will offer continuing education and licensing upgrade classes. Mansfield said her companies expanded late last year.

Stat Ambulance Service provides 911 services for Dartmouth. Stat Southcoast EMT provides back up 911 services for Dartmouth, New Bedford, and Fall River.
