PROVIDENCE – State regulators announced Friday that they have deemed the application from Prime Healthcare Services to buy Landmark Medical Center for $62 million complete as of July 1, according to a letter sent by R.I. Deputy Attorney General Gerald J. Coyne and Michael K. Dexter, chief of the office of Health Systems Development at the R.I. Department of Health.

In the letter, state regulators set the 120-day review period as running from July 1 through Oct. 28, saying that because the review will happen during the summer months, transacting parties were asked to make sure they would be available and that vacations scheduled didn’t interfere with the process.

Moving forward, they also asked for prompt responses from Prime Healthcare and Special Master Jonathan N. Savage, noting that responses had often been as late as six weeks past deadlines.

“This is a great day, not only for the employees of Landmark and the Rehabilitation Hospital of Rhode Island, but also for the residents of Northern Rhode Island, who rely on Landmark for their health care needs,” said Richard Charest, president of Landmark and the Rehabilitation Hospital of Rhode Island.
