PROVIDENCE – The Hospital Association of Rhode Island and its member hospitals have weighed in to support the development of a statewide health plan, an effort being promoted by Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Rhode Island President and CEO Peter Andruszkiewicz, among others.
“We must take inventory of the health care resources available in our state and measure the needs of our patients,” the hospital association wrote in its Tracking Trends newsletter released on Jan. 6. “It is through this analysis that stakeholders can then develop a solid, long-term plan that appropriately aligns resources with need, while taking into account demographics and federal and state reforms.
The newsletter continued: “This will be a large undertaking, but hospitals stand ready to be active participants in the process.”
In December 2011, Lt. Gov. Elizabeth H. Roberts met with Andruszkiewicz to discuss his ideas around statewide health planning. Sen. Joshua Miller, D-Cranston, told Providence Business News that statewide “coordinated planning should be critical in the short and long term.” •
