Communication is never awkward or uneasy at Tele-Consultants Inc., which provides such services as field engineering, financial management, information assurance and more.
Tele-Consultants makes extensive use of electronic technology to encourage conversation among employees at all six offices around the country, including Middletown. “We’ve set up a company blog,” said John Boucher, director of operations in the Ocean State. “It lets people exchange ideas, ask questions and communicate across areas.”
Tele-Consultants also uses Yammer, an internal instant-messaging portal, and the company’s SharePoint system includes an Employee Connect site, through which any employee may post announcements, including news about births, retirements, new hires, awards or anything else.
The company values face-to-face communication as well. “Every six weeks I have a meeting at our Middletown office, where everyone is encouraged to talk about issues,” Boucher said.
The company is also known for its strong benefits package, which now includes an employee stock-ownership plan. “It let’s everyone feel they have a vested interest in the company,” said Boucher. “We also have great 401(k) matching benefits – up to 7 percent.”
From time to time, employees are rewarded with gifts and recognitions. Anyone at the company can nominate any nonmanager for a spot award, which includes a $100 gift card awarded at a catered office luncheon. Anniversary milestones are recognized with plaques and cash awards.
There are also activities and events to foster camaraderie, including a holiday party and visits to theme parks and sporting events, with families invited to attend. •
