BOSTON – General Electric Co. said Suffolk Construction will be the construction manager for its $200 million headquarter campus project, the Boston Business Journal reported Friday.
The Journal said GE and MassDevelopment, the state’s economic development arm, on Thursday finalized the $83 million deal to acquire the site for GE’s future headquarters. The company plans to build a 12-story, 295,000-square-foot office and renovate two Necco Court historic warehouse properties, it reported.
“We are honored and privileged to partner with GE on the planning and construction of its new headquarters in the great city of Boston,” John Fish, chairman and CEO of Suffolk, said in a statement to the BBJ. “Our team looks forward to implementing our unique ‘build smart’ approach and state-of-the-art technologies and processes to plan and construct this important building for one of the most innovative, forwarding-thinking companies in the world.”
GE announced earlier this year it would move its corporate headquarters to Boston from Fairfield, Conn.
Providence was in the running for the headquarters, but the company instead chose to locate a GE Digital office in the city. A GE Digital office opened in a temporary space on Dorrance Street; it will move into a permanent location at 75 Fountain St. in the spring.
