As part of TD Bank’s commitment to giving back to the community, the TD Charitable Foundation has awarded 14 grants to nonprofit organizations that provide affordable housing, education and environmental programs in New England. The foundation, has donated $96,500 from November 2011 through January 2012 to the several organizations.
Nonprofits receiving grants are:
Audubon Center of New Hampshire – The nonprofit’s Beech Street Elementary School Program provides science and nature education using hands-on techniques to inner city students. The program provides second grade students from the school several visits with a New Hampshire Audubon naturalist to learn about nature and the environment.
Boston Building Materials Co-op –Access to affordable materials from the Reuse Center at BBR makes it possible for low- and moderate-income homeowners to repair and care for their homes on limited budgets, and, as a result, to improve their lives and neighborhoods.
Children’s Museum and Theatre of Maine – The theatre’s Toddler Park Exhibit and Early Childhood Program supports early childhood education with site-specific programming and admission passes for families in need.
St. Johnsbury Athenaeum – The Acorn Club at the athenaeum brings together several long-standing and very successful children’s literacy programs.
Women’s Institute for Housing and Economic Development of Connecticut – The institute is committed to combating homelessness and the lack of affordable housing for low-income individuals and families in Connecticut.
Elizabeth K. Warn, president of the charitable foundation and senior vice president of community development commented on the contributions. “The TD Charitable Foundation is proud to support dedicated organizations throughout New England who make their communities better,” she said. “Through their hard work and determination, the impact these organizations’ staff and volunteers make in their communities is immeasurable.”
