WARWICK – T.F. Green Airport saw a year-to-year increase in passenger traffic in August, with 356,675 total passengers, a 4.3 percent rise from August 2012, according to numbers released by the R.I. Airport Corporation Tuesday.
The airport’s year-to-date passenger traffic also saw an increase over 2012. T.F. Green’s 2.6 million passengers in the first eight months of 2013 constituted a 3 percent jump from the 2012 figure of 2.5 million.
Though the airport appeared to reverse the steady downward trend of the past several years, its passenger traffic numbers were still lower than those of 2009, 2010 and 2011.
T.F. Green also saw large year-to-year increases in total cargo enplaned and deplaned. In August, the airport transported roughly 2.4 million pounds of cargo, a 3.04 percent increase over August 2012. Year-to-date cargo tonnage increased 12.11 percent over 2012.
The five airlines with the greatest share of T.F. Green’s passenger traffic in August were Southwest Airlines, at 45.1 percent; US Airways, at 22.3 percent; Delta Airlines, at 13.6 percent; United Airlines, at 11.4 percent; and JetBlue Airways, at 6.4 percent.
Among them, United registered a year-to-year increase in passengers in August, rising 5.77 percent. Southwest fell 4.8 percent, US Airways dropped 9.91 percent, and Delta fell 1.05 percent.
JetBlue did not fly into or out of the airport in August 2012, as its flight service at T.F. Green Airport did not begin until November 2012.
In 2013 so far, 43,665 aircraft have departed from or landed at T.F. Green airport.
