T.F. Green reports passenger increase in May

WARWICK – Passenger traffic at T.F. Green Airport rose 3.3 percent in May, to 324,393 from 314,068 in May 2015, the R.I. Airport Corporation said Tuesday.

For the first five months of the year, passenger traffic grew 4.1 percent, to 1,447,262 from 1,390,314 during the year-ago period.
Among the major carriers, United Airlines had the greatest percentage increase over the year in May at 12.3 percent, to 24,668 passengers from 21,975.
American Airlines had the greatest increase in passengers over the year with 7,535, to 82,866 from 75,331.
Southwest Airlines, which holds the greatest market share at the airport at 46.4 percent, experienced the largest over-the-year percentage decline at 2 percent and greatest passenger number decrease at 3,090. Southwest’s passenger total was 150,586 in May compared with 153,676 in May 2015.
JetBlue Airways also experienced a passenger decline of 0.6 percent, to 24,130 from 24,269.
However, Delta Airlines experienced a passenger gain, at 2.5 percent, to 39,549 from 38,571.

TACV Cabo Verde Airlines, which flies year-round to Cape Verde, had 2,444 passengers in May. The airline started offering service from Green last June so a year-over-year comparison is unavailable. Year to date, it has had 9,665 passengers.
