T.F. Green runway extension lauded for sustainability

WARWICK – The Institute for Sustainable Infrastructure on July 11 announced that the T.F. Green Airport Runway 5 Extension Project has received a Gold Award, a top honor for professionals involved in planning, designing, building and maintaining civil infrastructure. It is the first airfield project in the country to receive a Gold Award from the ISI, according to a news release.

Ron Peckham, chairman of C&S Companies, the design firm for the extension, said the project was evaluated on a host of criteria, including community engagement, environmental impacts and economic benefits.

The ISI uses the holistic Envision assessment method to evaluate a project’s impact on the surrounding community. •
