Table games go live at Twin River

LINCOLN – Table gaming officially opened to the public at Twin River on Wednesday after a formal ribbon cutting ceremony at the entrance to the table games’ first-floor space this morning.

The ceremony was followed by a brief blackjack tournament among “invited dignitaries,” including Gov. Lincoln D. Chafee, R.I. Sen. William A. Walaska and former New England Patriot Matt Light, among others. The “dignitaries” played for a charity of their choice.

John Taylor, chairman of Twin River, was the first place winner of the tournament. He played for the Lincoln Public Library. The casino donated a total of $20,000 to six local charities designated by the winning players.

Charities supported by the winners included: Family Services of Northern Rhode Island, the Boys and Girls Club of Cumberland, the J. Arthur Trudeau Memorial Center, MacColl YMCA in Lincoln and the Gloria Gemma Breast Cancer Research Foundation.

To prepare for the public unveiling of table games, the casino conducted a series of brief, invitation-only sessions for small groups of players between June 14 and 19.

Table games fully opened to the public immediately following this morning’s 10:30 a.m. ribbon cutting ceremony.

According to its website, current plans for Twin River include 64 tables with a gaming mix of blackjack, roulette, craps, mini-baccarat and a variety of poker-based games.
