The Phoenix House of New England recently received $25,000 from the Taco/White Family Foundation to support its ongoing drug treatment and prevention programs.
The gift was part of Phoenix House’s annual fundraising event held in Providence, the New England Public Service Award luncheon.
During the event, a former Phoenix House client, Sofia Capria, shared her story of teenage drug and alcohol abuse with those in attendance, explaining how Phoenix House aided in her recovery.
“Virtually every family knows the pain of having a loved one fall into substance abuse,” said John Hazen White Jr., president and CEO of Taco, Inc. “They also know how long and difficult the recovery can be. In Sofia’s case, there’s a happy ending through the work and commitment of Phoenix House. We are proud of her and of Phoenix House.”
The luncheon raised a total of $150,000, which will support Phoenix House facilities in Rhode Island and New England. Founded in 1967, the organization serves more than 5,000 each day with 150 programs in 10 states. •
