Hundreds of people take the plunge for Special Olympics Rhode Island on Jan. 1 at Roger Wheeler State Beach in Narragansett. The 38th annual Penguin Plunge raised approximately $95,000 before expenses to support more than 2,800 athletes who compete year-round in more than 1,600 training opportunities and athletic competitions. The event has raised more than $2 million over three decades.
