NORTH KINGSTOWN – Allie’s Donuts, no stranger to best-of lists, was recently recognized by Tastemade for having the third-best doughnut shop in the nation.

Allie’s, Tastemade said, “has soft and fluffy donuts with delicious flavors including coconut jelly and maple frosted — you can get them ‘raised’ (softer) or ‘old fashioned’ (cakier).”

Tastemade, a video network for online audiences about food and travel, said the best doughnuts in the United States can be found at The Salty Donut in Miami, described as an artisanal shop featuring flavors such as guava and cheese, Nutella, and baked cookies and cream.

Blackbird Doughnuts in Boston, with flavors such as blackberry lavender, was fourth on the list.

“Our mouths are watering already,” the list authors said.

Eighteen doughnut shops were featured on the Tastemade list.

Allie’s, on Route 2, has been in operation since 1968. Its popularity is obvious by the lines that regularly form outside the shop for the doughnuts.

Last year, Allie’s was recognized by the website Thrillist for being among the 33 best doughnut shops in America.

“The top seller is a fluffy yeast donut with fluorescent sprinkles atop sugary, melt-in-your-mouth white frosting. It’s a child’s dream donut. It’s an adult’s dream donut. And it’s best enjoyed en route to the ocean with the windows down and sprinkles all over the car,” Thrillist wrote.
