Taveras, Chafee open PPAC Square

PROVIDENCE- Mayor Angel Taveras and Governor Lincoln D. Chafee took part in the opening ceremony of the Providence Performance Arts Center Square early Wednesday.

The PPAC Square project installed a dedicated drop off lane immediately in front of the theater and built out a functional traffic median that includes new sidewalks, 25 trees, granite planters, bike racks and new benches.

The PPAC Square project, part of the greater $5.5 million Downtown Providence Traffic Circulation Improvements Project, started with a similar event outside the grand marquee in April 2011.

“Providence’s creative economy is strengthened by institutions like PPAC,” Taveras said in prepared remarks. “I am proud to join supporters of the arts from across our city to officially open PPAC Square, a fitting grand entrance to our signature theater.”
