BOSTON – Former Providence Mayor Angel Taveras has been named litigation shareholder in international law firm Greenberg Traurig LLP’s Boston office, the firm announced Monday.
Taveras, who served as mayor from 2011 to 2015, left office last month after an unsuccessful gubernatorial bid. In its statement, Greenberg Traurig cited his leadership experience, highlighting his work overseeing a city government with 5,700 employees and a budget of $678 million.
“[Taveras] is credited with rescuing Providence from the brink of bankruptcy and eliminating a $110 million structural deficit through landmark reforms to pensions, negotiated concessions in labor contracts and unprecedented assistance from tax-exempt institutions,” the firm said.
In addition to his public service work, Taveras also has 14 years of experience in litigation, according to the statement. A licensed attorney in Rhode Island, Massachusetts and New York, his practice covers areas including complex commercial matters, bankruptcy, zoning and land use, and election recounts.
Greenberg Traurig LLP is an international, multi-practice law firm with approximately 1,800 attorneys serving clients from 37 offices in the United States, Latin America, Europe, Asia and the Middle East. Founded in 1999, Greenberg Traurig’s Boston office specializes in practices such as corporate, emerging technology, governmental affairs, intellectual property, labor and employment, life sciences and medical technology, litigation, public finance and real estate.
