Tax Division computer system goes live

PROVIDENCE – The R.I. Division of Taxation’s new computer system went live in mid-July, with more than 30 types of taxes and fees administered by the agency now being processed by the new system, the state agency announced July 16.
The levies and programs now being handled by the new system include the bank excise tax, public service gross earnings tax and beverage container tax.
“We spent many hours of planning, testing and re-testing over multiple months leading up to the launch” of this phase, said Rhode Island Tax Administrator David M. Sullivan in the July/August/September issue of the agency newsletter.
Previously, the more than 30 taxes and fees were handled on spreadsheets or Microsoft Access databases, according to the agency.
