PROVIDENCE – Teespring is moving its customer service operation from Davol Square to its new Kentucky production facility, resulting in the loss of 70 jobs.
A company spokesperson was not able to provide the exact number of employees who will remain in Providence after the two-month transition is complete. In addition, account services and sales in Providence will move to San Francisco to centralize operations, according to the company.
Teespring, a custom apparel-making platform founded by Brown University graduates, is headquartered in San Francisco. In addition to Kentucky and Providence, Teespring also has an office in London.
“We’d like to express our thanks and appreciation to the talented team members in Rhode Island who helped Teespring get to where it is today. Restructuring our Providence office was a difficult decision,” company spokeswoman Stephanie Hesse said in an email. “However, we believe that our new team structure – reflecting expansion in our San Francisco and Kentucky locations – enables us to better serve our customers and organize Teespring for our next phase of growth.”
A spokesman for the R.I. Department of Labor and Training, Michael Healey, said the agency has reached out to the company to see if it can offer assistance regarding the affected workers.
