Temporary traffic changes planned around Providence Place mall

PROVIDENCE – Temporary traffic changes will be in effect today and tomorrow around Providence Place mall to account for an anticipated increase in pedestrian and vehicle traffic, according to the mayor’s office.

From 2 to 6 p.m., left turn traffic movement from the Route 6 eastbound off ramp to Francis Street will be detoured east on Memorial Boulevard, left onto Exchange Street, and left onto Finance Way.

Vehicles seeking to enter the Providence Place Mall will be directed to Park Street. Traffic will be prohibited onto Hayes Street with the exception of right turns from Park Street onto Hayes Street, which will be allowed to enter the mall from Hayes Street.

Traffic will be prohibited from traveling southbound on Francis Street between Smith Street and Gaspee Street.

Traffic exiting the mall onto Park Street will be directed to Promenade Street and left onto Dean Street to access major highways I-95, I-195 and Route 6.

These temporary traffic changes are being planned in coordination with the state Department of Transportation to accommodate the increased downtown traffic expected following the Thanksgiving holiday. For a map showing the changes visit www.providenceri.com.
