Tennis Hall of Fame breaks ground on project

NEWPORT – The International Tennis Hall of Fame officially broke ground recently on a $15.7 million expansion and renovation project intended to help modernize the complex and boost visitors, The Newport Daily News reported.
As part of the first phase of the project, several buildings along Memorial Boulevard will be knocked down to make way for a new 16,000-square-foot complex. The new building, which will remake the streetscape along one of the city’s more well-traveled roads, will include locker rooms, fitness space, retail shops and offices.
Additionally, a new 21,000-square-foot building will be constructed and will feature three indoor tennis courts along with three indoor-outdoor courts.
Hall Chairman Christopher Clouser, also the co-chairman of the Hall’s Capital Campaign Committee, told the Daily News that $12.5 million of the $15.7 million needed has been raised to date.
Roughly 100,000 people from across the U.S. visited the Hall of Fame last year. •
