NEWPORT – The International Tennis Hall of Fame and Museum has launched a capital campaign to improve and expand its facilities, the organization announced Monday. This is its first capital campaign in 12 years.

The funding will upgrade the museum, add additional tennis courts and facilities, improve amenities and expand the Hall of Fame’s footprint. The campaign would also serve to revitalize the nearby streetscape.

The capital campaign has a goal of $15.7 million, and fundraising has been underway for about a year. At the July meeting of the board of directors it was announced that more than $10.5 million of that sum has been secured.

“We are grateful for the significant initial support the campaign has received,” said campaign co-chairman Ed Woolard in a statement. “We hope that the greater community will embrace this campaign to help us raise the additional funds needed to complete this effort and move forward with the plans.”
